site of the Cathedral was purchased in 1905 and work was begun in 1908.
The first Mass was celebrated on Christmas day in 1914 and the structure
completed in 1926. It was built under the guidance of Bishop Carroll and
Monsignor Day and is modeled in its general lines, after the Votive Church
